Why This Cause Matters to Us

We are a team of UMKC students who believe that every student should have the opportunity to pursue higher education, regardless of their financial circumstances.

As first-generation students ourselves, we understand that going to college can come with challenges that are not always easy to see. Many of us are navigating college while also balancing financial responsibilities, family expectations, work, and the pressure of being the first in our families to earn a degree.

Scholarships can make a meaningful difference. They can help reduce the financial stress placed on students and their families and allow students to focus more of their time and energy on their education and their future.

We have seen the impact of scholarship support in our own lives, and now we want to pay that opportunity forward. We are raising funds through Cambio Para Cambio to support Latinx first-generation students at UMKC because we want other students to have the opportunity to continue their education, pursue their goals, and become the first in their families to graduate from college.

This cause is personal to us because we know that behind every scholarship is a student with a story, a family making sacrifices, and a dream worth supporting.

In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, your impact can go even further. From September 15 through October 31, every dollar donated is matched 100% by generous HDF donors. That means your contribution can have twice the impact in supporting first-generation students.
