Why I’m Raising Funds for HDF

We are Jessica & Fatima. We are two best friends, first-generation Mexican-American college graduates, and now proud Master’s degree holders. Our journeys started at opposite ends of our families. One of us is the oldest sibling-the trailblazer who quietly laid the groundwork with no roadmap. The other is the youngest sibling, the one who stepped up to be the first in their entire family to ever cross a college campus, beautifully rewriting our family script. We co-founded this scholarship campaign out of immense pride for our heritage and an overwhelming love for our families and community. We want you to know that your dreams are valid, beautiful, and within your reach. Now, we want to combine the gentle love our families gave us with the fierce strength of our friendship to lift you up, protect your education, and stand shoulder to shoulder with you as you make history for your own family. Every student, regardless of their background, status, or circumstances, deserves the opportunity to pursue their dreams.

We are proud to participate in Cambio para Cambio because we believe in the power of education to create opportunities—not just for individual students, but for families and our entire community. For more than 40 years, HDF has invested in Hispanic students across the Kansas City area through scholarships and college preparation programs, helping students pursue their educational goals and build brighter futures.
