France Aguirre grew up in the Westside, writing poetry and enjoying every moment at school. As a young mother, she found herself widowed yet determined to give her children every opportunity in life. Pursuing her college education at Avila College (now Avila University) and then the University of Kansas, she became a teacher; she remained determined to empower others through education. Now at ninety-four years old, she remains vibrant; she encourages others to pursue their education now. This is why her family began this Frances Aguirre Rog Scholarship.
