Thank you for visiting our Cambio para Cambio page for the Law Office of Raymond Rico, LLC "Rico Family Scholarship."
Due to segregation, discrimination, and unequal treatment, Inez Delgado could not continue her education past elementary school. Inez was my grandmother. On my graduation day from the University of Kansas, with tears in her eyes, my mother, Maria Rico, told me how much her mom would have loved to see me graduate.
My father, Gregorio Rico, completed 2nd grade before he started working various jobs to help support himself and his younger siblings. He immigrated to the United States in his 20s armed with a trash bag full of belongings and without legal status. He managed to start his own business, mastered the art of upholstery, and instilled in my brother and I that our education would help us avoid the hardships he had to endure.
As an alum of the Hispanic Development Fund Scholarship, every dollar counted for Raymond Rico to graduate from the University of Kansas and the UMKC School of Law; allowing him to achieve a career dream of advocating for his community as an attorney.
The Rico Family Scholarship hopes to assist the next generations of young education seekers with their educational aspirations.
